Read More	Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007 -- Eva Carolyn Smith Barbee, 67, of 24850 Fink Road, Albemarle, died at 4;07 a.m. Feb. 24, 2007, in her home. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday Feb. 26, 2007 at Canton Baptist Church. The Rev. Mark Mabry will officiate and burial will be in Canton Baptist Church Cemetery, Albemarle. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.Sunday Feb. 25 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. Born March 31, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Haywood Bradley Smith and Elizabeth Lowder Smith who resides in Norwood. A son, David Wayne Russell, preceded her in death. Carolyn was a retired nurse who believed in putting family, friends, acquaintances and strangers needs before her own. She was a dedicated nurse whose laugh and smile encouraged many patients as she cared for them. Many remember her today for her card ministry. While she was taking radiation and chemotherapy treatments she continued to keep abreast of who was sick, had a birthday or lost a loved one and sent them a cheerful card. Her sweet spirit was contagious. Always happy, she could out-sing any choir with her "joyful noise." Carolyn thought the sun rose and set in her family. She encouraged her children to seek God's guidence and treat others as they wished to be treated. She prayed daily for her grandchildren to hold on to those values as well. She praised each one's accomplishments and reminded them to strive in making their lives better. She is survived by her husband Clarence Barbee; two daughters, Donna Ragsdale and friend Allen Davidson, and Karen Morris and husband Todd; a son, Kevin Russell and wife Cindy and a step-son Ronald Barbee of Albemarle; four brothers, Bradley Smith of Charlotte, and Eugene, Marvin and Larry Smith of Norwood; three grandsons, Daniel and Richard Wilkinson and Brandon Russell; two step-grandsons, Dean Barbee and wife Karen and Todd Barbee; five grandaughters, Sarah Barwick and husband Duane, Jacquelyn Helms and husband Nick, Jessica and Heather Russell and Rebekah Morris; two step-granddaughters, Katie Morris and Paula Crisco and husband Scott; and three step-great-grandchildren, Jessica, Kelsie and Noah Barbee. Memorials may be made to Canton Baptist Church Youth and Mission Funds, Albemarle; The Howell Center, Midland and Hospice of Stanly County, Albemarle.
