Nevins Winfield Daily Courier Winfield, Kansas Monday, August 30, 1920 page 2 Deaths. Nevins. - Mrs. W.J. Nevins died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.C. Johnson, 1510 Loomis street Sunday afternoon at quarter past one o'clock. The news of the passing of Mrs. Nevins came as an unexpected shock to the community where she has resided so many years. Though she had been in failing health the past year she was not taken seriously ill until last Thursday evening. She was an exceptionally fine woman loved by a legion of friends who extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their irreparable loss. Essentially maternal, she was a veriable mother to the several young people who at various times made their home with Mrs. Nevins. In early girlhood she united with the Unitarian church and lived a beautiful Christian life. She was also a member of the Queen City Chapter of the Eastern Star. Eva Northorp was born in Ohio, June 11, 1853 and was married to W.B. Nevins in Nebraska. To this union were born three children, Ansel Nevins of Wichita, Mrs. Ray Gault of Chicago and Mrs. A.C. Johnson of Winfield who survive. Mr. Nevis preceded her to the beyond thirteen years ago. They came to Winfield thirty-two years ago where Mr. Nevins served the Santa Fe as agent for fifteen years. After the death of her husband she made her home with her son until a year ago when she went to Chicago where she lived with her daughter returning to Winfield last May. One brother, Ward B. Northorp of Winfield and two sisters, Mrs. M.K. Fleming of Webb City, Missouri and Mrs. Effie L. Boice of New Paris, Ohio mourn her departure. The daughter and sisters will be unable to attend the funeral which will be held from the Johnson home Tuesday morning at nine thirty o'clock conducted by Dr. W.C. Templeton and the O.E.S. Interment will be in Union cemetery beside the husband. (transcribed by Judy Mayfield) March 2020
