Eva Fern (James) Briar, daughter of Samuel and Catherine (Davies) James was born August 24, 1890, in Chadron, Nebraska and passed away on Saturday, March 9, 1968, in the Des Moines General Hospital, having attained the age of 77 years, 6 months and 14 days. When still a small child, she moved with her parents to Appanoose County, Iowa, where she later became a teacher and taught in the public schools for many years. On February 21, 1920, she was married to V.R. Briar, who survives her. Mr. and Mrs. Briar made their home in Des Moines until 1924, when they moved to Altoona and it was here that they spent the remainder of their married life. Mrs. Briar was preceded in death by her parents; one son Dr. Jack Briar; five sisters and one brother. Survivors include her husband; one son Donald; two daughters-in-law and seven granddaughters. She was a member of the Altoona Methodist church and the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the church and the Polk County Health Association and the American Legion Auxilliary.
