Mrs. Seaton operated the Seaton Real Estate business for 15 years until selling her home at 17 W 3rd in 1954 and spending most of the last winters in California. She was an early settler of this area. Mrs. Seaton was born in Clermont, Iowa, June 25, 1873, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Dorland. She attended rural schools of the area and later Upper Iowa University, Fayette. She received her teacher's certificate from West Union preparatory school and taught in Fayette County for a year before coming to Spencer. She taught in Hopewell and Riverton schools of Clay County, living with her sister, Mrs. Nefzger Hanson, mother of Mrs. LeRoy C. Nefzger, Spencer. Mrs. Seaton returned to Clermont in 1893 and she and Jonas R. Ford were married Nov. 28, 1893. They then returned to Spencer where Mr. Ford was a clerk in the Sully Mercantile business. Mr. Ford died in 1901. Two years later, Mrs. Seaton and Edwin Cole were married in Spencer. Mr. Cole died in 1912. Then in 1914, she and J. E. Seaton, Spencer, were married and Mrs. Seaton joined her husband's real estate business, obtaining her broker's license following his death in 1940. Mrs. Seaton was a member of Eastern Star, Evening Shade Chapter for nearly 50 years; the D.A.R., Lydia Alden Chapter and the Methodist Church for the past 40 years. Survivors include sons, Walter and Edwin Cole, California, and John Everett Seaton, Oak Park, Ill. Also surviving are four grandchildren.
