Eva, known to many as "Grandma Eva" died Saturday, February 23, 2013, in the Kenmare Hospital. A memorial service for Eva will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bowbells United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at Bowbells Community Cemetery, Bowbells, ND. Read More	It is with wonderful memories and bittersweet smiles that we convey the loss of Eva Lorraine Hass. Eva, known to many as "Grandma Eva" died Saturday, February 23, 2013, in the Kenmare Hospital. A memorial service for Eva will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bowbells United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at Bowbells Community Cemetery, Bowbells, ND. Visitation: There will be no reviewal but friends may sign the register book on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Eva was born on May 5, 1921, in the Kenmare Hospital to Cecil "Syke" and Della Westlake. She attended her first year of school in Kenaston, ND and grades two through seven in Baden, ND. Her family then moved to Donnybrook where she graduated from 8th grade. In 1935, the family moved to Kenmare where she graduated from high school. Eva met Bennie Hass at a dance at the Lakeshore dance hall. The two fell in love and eloped to Plentywood, MT, on October 5, 1940. Eva was a devoted mother and farmer's wife. She enjoyed hauling hot meals to the field each harvest making sure each hired hand had their own favorite homemade pie. She said it was important to Bennie that the men had full stomachs while they were working on our land. Eva's joy of cooking and baking made her home the place to stop for a cup of coffee, a treat or a meal! Eva enjoyed going to club dances with Bennie, winning numerous dancing contests. Music was always a big part of her life. She also enjoyed bowling, and spending time with her family and friends playing cards and games. Eva was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed attending numerous sporting events cheering for her children and grandchildren. She continued to sit in the stands and cheer on numerous other children in the community long after her family had graduated. She was one of the biggest Bowbells Eskimos fans, even dressing up as an Eskimo on a float during the Bowbells Centennial Parade. Eva's legacy to her family and friends can be summed up in three words: Loving, Giving and Caring. Eva is survived by her six children, Judy Fredericks, Lafayette, CO, Janice Homiston, Kohler, WI, Joyce Wiper, Burnsville, MN, Jim Hass, Lynnwood, WA, Joette Hass, Lawrence, KS, and Jay Hass, Bowbells. Eva was a very proud grandmother of 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Eva is also survived by her sisters, Sylvia Evenson, Kenmare, and Joyce Westlake, Kenmare; and her brother, Dick Westlake, Minot; and numerous nieces and nephews. Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie G. Hass, who passed away January 8, 1999; her parents, Cecil and Della Westlake; sister, Fern Yale; and brother, Jack Westlake. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church, Bowbells, ND, Kenmare Skilled Nursing Unit, or the Maple View Baptist Home, Kenmare, ND.
