Read More	LOUP COUNTY PIONEER CALLED Eva May Harvey was born in Webster "County, Iowa, Juno 20th, 1869 and passed away quite suddenly early Saturday morning, October 15th, at Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 69 years, S months and 25 days. In 1874 Benjamin Harvey, a preeminent figure of pioeer, North Loup Valley history, with his frail, young wife and family of small children left Webster County, Iowa, to cast their fortune in the primitive Nebraska. They spent the winter in St. Paul and in the spring, followed the "trail of the Loup" up in the valley, settling on what is now known as the David Cooper farm. Although several families settled in the vicinity the same year, Mary, (Mrs. Benjamin Harvey) was the first white woman to reside in Loup County. Her's is a record of bravery and sacrifice. Eva May was a small girl of five years but she recalled vividly the spring of 1875 when the Indian scare occurred. The growing crops wore abandoned and all the settlers gathered at an improvised fort on Alger place. A stockade and temporary dugouts were made for family dwellings. The attack was not forth coming and the settlers later returned to their homes. She also remembered the lonely days, weeks, months, when her father made the long treks to Grand Island and the joy when he) returned. (Benjamin Harvey made 110 trips to Grand Island with ox team.) Eva May attended the first school taught in Loup county. Her sister Rose was the teacher pf this pioneer, sodhouse school. June 20, 1886, Eva May Harvey and Alanson S. Moon, a young attorney then living at Kent were united in marriage by County Judge A. M. Gurnsey. They resided at Kent several years. Later when the county seat having been removed to Taylor and the town was practically abandoned, Mr. Moon moved his house to Taylor to its present site in the south part of town. They remodeled and enlarged the house to its present commodious proportions and it has remained her home since that time. Five sons were born to this union, Raymond, Leon, and Teddy dying in infancy. Arthur and Emmett grew to manhood in Taylor. Mr. Moon's first wife, formerly Rose Harvey and a sister of Eva May Harvey left a son, Carl, and Mrs. Moon was always a devoted mother to her nephew and stepson She was greatly bereaved at his earIy death. Mr. Moon practiced law and held the office of Count" Attorney for many years in Loup county. He passed away in 1922. Mrs. Moon continued to make her home in Taylor, occasionally visiting her son Emmett at Sargent, who has attended his mother closely in her declining years. Arthur Moon resides in Zion, Illinois. His mother visited him in Zion but became homesick and returned to her home. April 24, 1029, Mrs. Moon was united in marriage with James D, Bowley. They resided in Taylor. Mr Bowley passed away January 18, 1932. Mrs. Bowley was a member of the Free Methodist Church. All her life she was closely associated and devoted to church activities. Mrs. Bowley leaves to mourn her passing her two sons, Arthur of Zion Illinois, Emmett of Sargent, two sisters. Mrs. Ida Dale of Broken Bow and Mrs. John Renz of Idaho one brother, Will of Orton Flats, South Dakota, many relatives and friends. Mrs. Eva Moon-Bowley lived a quiet and gracious life in the community. She did not like solitude and generally had a companion in the home who speaks very kindly of associations with her. In the pioneer research work being done in the county superintendent's office for school local history she gave some very valuable contributions, always willing to cooperate with us, her experiences were vivid. "Spirit Mother, throned on high Now me thinks I hear her speak From thy home within the sky, In its accents, low and meek. Thou art saying "Banish sadness," God is love,--0, trust him ever Heaven is filled with joy and gladness; It shall be thy home forever." Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Kenneth Lemon, Monday afternoon, October 17th., from the Congregational Church at Taylor Rev. Lemon's text, Mark 14-8. She Has Done What She Could was impressive of her life. A mixed quartette, Mrs. William Rus, Miss Kate Beals, Guy Fletcher and Paul Cole with Mrs. Arnold Campbell, pianist sang her favorite hymns. Pall bearers were Wilbur and James Moon, Jack and Ned P.
