Hope Last week's Leader told of the death of Mrs. Will Amos at the Bryan Memorial hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, Wednesday evening, June 18, and that Robert Spooner went to Lincoln to bring the body here. The funeral was held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, commencing at 2:20 o'clock. There was a large number of friends present. There was a large display of beautiful flowers, there being ninetten or twenty baskets with flowers of various kinds. Among these were roses, carnations, lilies, gladioli, daises, delphiniums, asters, snap dragons, and gypsophila. The Funeral was directed by F. W. Spooner, and son Robert M. Spooner. The religious services were in charge of the pastor of the church Rev. V. R. Bell, who preached a very consoling sermon. The singing was by Mrs. William R. Kidder and Mrs. Fred Rush, with Mrs. Robert G. Brown at the piano. The songs used were "Face to Face, " Only a Dream" and "The End of a Perfect Day". The pall bearers were Ernest Kotre, Glenn Amos, Edward T. Larson, George E. Steinhoff, Bert Amos and Ethen Paxton. Interment was made in the Sargent precinct cemetery which has been known for years as Mt. Hope Cemetery. Eva Campbell, oldest daughter of John & Kate Campbell, was born August 26, 1871, at Union, Nebraska, and after a long, lingering illness, she departed this life June 19, 1940, in a hospital at Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 23 days. When she was a child of twelve, her parents came to Custer County, Nebraska, in the year 1883 and settled near Weissert, and this was her home until the time of her marriage. Her education was received in the schools of the districts in which her parents resided. On May 11, 1896, she married to William R. Amos, and for a number of years they made their home in the Coburg community eight or nine miles south of Sargent. In the year 1915 they moved from their farm to Sargent which has been their home ever since. Mrs. Amos was the mother of seven children, two of whom Dale and Leona, preceded her in death. The surviving members of her family are: her husband, and three sons and two daughters. The sons are Claria C. Amos of Shubert, Nebraska, Fenton Amos of Sargent, and Loren L. Amos of the Coburg County, post office, Comstock, Nebraska. The daughters, are Mrs. Bessie (Dale C.) Mapel of Lewellen, Nebraska, and Marie N. Amos of Sargent. There are also eight grandchildren surviving, and three brothers, Reuben, Dell and Hugh Campbell all of Custer County. A number of years ago, Mrs. Amos united with the Christian church of Sargent and was member at the time of her death. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist church, and participated in its activities as long as her health permitted. She was greatly devoted to her family, and always gladly responded to every community need. She had a host of friends who will miss her greatly, but one thing is certain, they will not forget her soon. "Why should our tears in sorrow flow When God has called his own. "Their toils are past, their work is done, And they are fully blest; They fought the fight, the victory won, And entered into rest. "Then let our sorrows cease to flow; God has recalled his own, But let our hearts, in every woe, Still say, 'Thy will be done'."
