Mrs. A. S. Coler, one of Nashua's long time residents and a woman highly respected in the community, passed way last Thursday morning after a week's illness from pneumonia. Deceased had lived in this city since her early womanhood and was always active in church and social affairs of the community and her death will be mourned by a wide circle of friends who sympathize deeply with the bereaved husband and two daughters in their great sorrow. Effie Helena Clason was the eldest of seven children born to J. J. and Pamela Clason. She was born at Jacksonville, Ia., April 17, 1857, at the time of her death, which occurred at Nashua Jan. 17, 1918, she was 60 years and 9 months old. At the age of 12 she went to live with her family at West Union, Iowa, and after a residence there of six years came to live at Nashua, where she has resided ever since. On October 5, 1875, she was married to Albert S. Coler and in the spring of 1876 Mr. and Mrs. Coler moved into the home in which our sister passed away; nearly forty-two years continuous residence in one home is very nearly a record for this part of the country. Three children came to bless the home life of Brother and Sister Coler. Mrs. Blanche Becker of Waterloo; Louis, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Lulu Becker, Nashua. Besides her husband and daughters, Mrs. Coler leaves an aged father who resides at Chicago and who has passed the 84th milestone of life's way; also four sisters and a brother. Mrs. Alta Schrenkel of Minneapolis, Mrs. Abie Dalton of Chicago, Mrs. Harriett Taylor of Nashua, Mrs. Myrtle Curtin of Boston, Mass., and Will B. Clason of Minneapolis. Mrs. Coler has been a member of the M. E. church since early childhood and has shown her devotion to it in numerous ways, and for many years took great delight in beautifying it with the flowers she loved so much. Our sister never enjoyed robust health and when she contracted a had cold the outlook was serious. After a few days of intense suffering she fell asleep from which there is no awakening until the day of the Lord shall come. The sadness of this hour is known of only to those who are parting from a devoted wife, or mother, or sister and we say "Goodbye" with hope that we may meet again, where pain and sorrow are never known and where the peace of God reigns for aye. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday at 2 p.m., Rev. H. D. Green of the M. E. church officiating, assisted by Rev. W. V. Whitten, rector of the Episcopal church, Glenwood, Iowa, Brother-in-law of Mr. Coler, who with his wife were present at the obsequies. Burial was made at Oak Hill.
