Description	:	Evan Harmon, 80, a 70-year East Wenatchee resident, passed away Thursday night, Jan. 22, 1998, at Central Washington Hospital. He was born on Feb. 6, 1917, in East Wenatchee, to Bascom and Kate (Barnett) Harmon. He was raised and received his early schooling in East Wenatchee and Rock Island. Read More	Evan Harmon, 80, a 70-year East Wenatchee resident, passed away Thursday night, Jan. 22, 1998, at Central Washington Hospital. He was born on Feb. 6, 1917, in East Wenatchee, to Bascom and Kate (Barnett) Harmon. He was raised and received his early schooling in East Wenatchee and Rock Island. During his midteen years, he moved with his family to Tonasket, where they briefly made their home prior to returning to East Wenatchee. Evan worked in area orchards before going to work for Jennings Tire Co. in Wenatchee. On Aug. 17, 1940, he was married to Erma Wendt in Wenatchee. They made their home together in East Wenatchee. He went to work as a crane operator for Keokuk Mining in the mid-1950s. On Nov. 1, 1965, he was preceded in death by his wife, Erma. He was later married to Cordie Smith on Feb. 1, 1966, at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Evan continued working for the mining company through its various name changes and retired from Hannah Mining in 1979. They have since continued to make their home in East Wenatchee. He especially enjoyed being at home, working in his yard and garden, tinkering and inventing helpful tools. He is survived by his wife, Cordia Harmon, at home; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Arthur E. Harmon, and Thomas D. and Jan Harmon, all of Wenatchee; four stepchildren and their spouses, James R. and Margaret Smith, Westlake, Calif., Gerry and Vivian Smith, Fish Camp, Calif., and Michael and Michele Smith, and Dorothy Warford, all of East Wenatchee; five grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 16 stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, three brothers, three sisters and one stepgrandson. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
