Cox, 63, Harlan, pulled in front of an oncoming vehicle on Thursday, April 20, at the junction of highways 39, 59, and 141, and collided with a northbound 1982 Chevrolet van driven by David D. Pudenz, 25, Denison. The accident happened at 7:19 p.m. Cox was pronounced dead at Crawford County Memorial Hospital. Carol Hoffman, 54, Dedham, was a passenger in the Cox vehicle and sustained slight injuries. She was treated at the hospital and released. = = Harlan, Iowa News Advertiser Friday May 5, 1989 page 4B Evangeline "Vangee" Cox, 63 HARLAN - Evangeline Gertrude Cox, daughter of Edward G. and Margaret (Pletchette) Klocke was born on a farm at Dedham, March 25, 1926. She died at Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, April 20, 1989, just 26 days after her 63rd birthday. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dedham and attended St. Joseph's School. After her education, she worked at Bryardale Grocery Store. May 6, 1945, she married Cecil Cox at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dedham. They were the parents of three sons and three daughters. After their marriage, Cecil entered the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Farragut, ID and Alameda Naval Air in Oakland, CA. She went back to Dedham during this time until he was discharged. They then farmed near Dedham until 1964 at which time they moved to a farm east of Harlan. They moved to Harlan in 1981 and this has been her home since that time. She became a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan in 1964 and was a St. Michael's Guild member. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Cecil; three sons, Allen of Harlan; Jeffrey of Liberal, KS; and Richard of Omaha, NE; three daughters, Loryce (Mrs. Tom) Fredericksen of Omaha, NE; June (Mrs. Jerome) Behrens of Kiron; and Peggy (Mrs. Gary) Larson of Winterset; 13 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren; three brothers, Joe Klocke of Carroll; and Louis and Harry Klocke both of Denison; six sisters, Luella (Mrs. Bernard) Klein and Elaine Sporrer, both of Templeton; Kathleen (Mrs. Don) Irlmeier of Audubon; twin sisters, Leona (Mrs. George) Erps of Denison and Leana (Mrs. Don) Kalkhoff of Templeton and Carol (Mrs. Eugene) Hoffman of Dedham; nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated April 24, 1989 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Harlan with Rev. David Polich as the celebrant and Rev. Larry Burns concelebrating. Burial was in Harlan cemetery with Chris Cox, Doug Leinen, Jeff Behrens, Brad Behrens, Steve Wiebers and Steve Chmura serving as casketbearers. Pauley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
