Description | : | Entertainer. Born in Butte, Montana, he was a motorcycle daredevil whose daring and highly publicized motorcycle jumps, including attempting to jump over the Snake River canyon, made him a household name. Despite suffering a series of major injuries during stunts, he had a long career in stunt riding. He is immortalized in Washington's Smithsonian Institution as "America's Legendary Daredevil." His son, Robbie "Kaptain" Knievel, has carried on in his father's daredevil footsteps as a motorcycle stunt entertainer. |

To an all around great American. You were one of my heroes growing up and I thought you were just too cool. I used to play with the Evel Knievel stunt cycle one of my friends had. You were so awesome and I will miss you.

I was a huge fan and kept up with you as a teen in the 70s. I was hooked when I went and saw George Hamilton as you in the movie "Evel Knievel." I went and bought the DVD today after I heard about your passing and am going to watch it tonight. You were certainly an original. I liked your quote: "I'm not a hero. I could ride a motorcycle good and I was a pretty good businessman." We'll certainly miss you but I'm happy that you're no longer in pain. My prayers are with you and your family. Rest in peace.
