Eveline May Heinle was born on July 4, 1941, the oldest of 4 children, to Arnold and Bertha (Delzer) Heinle, near the Heart River, in northern Grant County, North Dakota. She was raised on the family farm, south of Hebron, North Dakota, where she attended rural schools through 8th grade, and graduated from Hebron High School in 1959. Eveline was united in marriage to Leland Schulz, on September 4th, 1959 at the First Congregational Church in Hebron, North Dakota. They lived, for a short time, in Sidney, Montana, before moving to New Leipzig, where she spent most of the rest of her life. Eveline and Leland blessed the lives of two young boys by adopting Jody Lee on September 19, 1968 and Seth Ray, on September 20, 1971. Eveline was a tireless worker and held many positions throughout her life. She began by doing domestic work, outside the home, for people in the area and as Leland's construction business took off, she began working side by side with him. In 1974, she started her career in the role that everyone knew her best for. She rented space in the local butcher shop and started a small bakery. In 1976, her and Leland decided that she needed a larger stage to showcase her talents and they purchased the New Leipzig Hotel & Cafe. There she became widely known for her wonderful baked goods and wedding cakes, as well as her German dough dish specials and Smorgasbords, which had people coming from far and wide. In 1993, she and Leland retired to a farm, south of New Leipzig, North Dakota, but not being one to rest, she became involved in raising pigs, gardening and worked as a cook at the Curve Nightclub in Mott, North Dakota. She also worked in housekeeping, for several years, at the Mott Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She finally retired to her beloved orchard and gardens in 2007, where she spent many happy hours, tending to God's gifts. Always the gracious host, no one could ever visit her house without going away with the fruits of her garden or a meal or baked goods that always seemed readily at hand. In 2011, Eveline decided to embark on the adventure of her lifetime and moved to Longview, Washington, where she lived out her remaining days. While there she enjoyed many wonderful times and adventures in the company of her dear friend Victor Magstadt. Eveline lived her life to the fullest and enjoyed a very deep and meaningful relationship with her Lord and Creator. She had a deep awe and wonder of all of the beauty and splendor in the world around her and shared that passion with everyone who was willing to listen and learn. She touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with, through her compassion, caring, and tireless desire to help. She will be remembered, fondly, by her dear friend Vic, her two sons, Jody (Kathy), of Woodbury, Minnesota; and Seth of New Leipzig, North Dakota. She is also survived by her sister Luella (Arnold) Gomke, of Big Arm, Montana; her two brothers, Armin, of McClusky, North Dakota; and Larry (Audrey) of Bismarck, North Dakota; and her brother-in-law Malcolm (Norma) Schulz of Elgin, North Dakota; as well as several aunts and uncles and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her parents, Arnold and Bertha and her husband of 42 years, Leland, preceded her in death.
