Description	:	Evelyn Ardell Briggs, 78, of East Wenatchee and a longtime Rock Island resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, in Central Washington Hospital. She was born Sept. 22, 1919, in the farming community at Chambers, Neb., to Harry R. and Clara (Harris) Ressel. She was one of 11 children and grew up in that community. She was born Sept. 22, 1919, in the farming community at Chambers, Neb., to Harry R. and Clara (Harris) Ressel. She was one of 11 children and grew up in that community. She did some home study at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, in preparation for teaching when World War II began. She trained as a machinist, moving to Seattle in 1942 to work for Western Gear Works. Evelyn moved to Anchorage, Alaska, with friends in 1946, where she met her soon-to-be-husband, Eugene Briggs. They were married in Anchorage on Oct. 10, 1946, and a daughter, Susan Claire, was born there. The next move took them to Bend, Ore., to try farming. Daughter Alice Elaine was born at Bend, and the two girls joined Jacqueline and Richard, children of a prior marriage. Many moves later they settled in Everett, Wash., where Eugene worked at the Nord Door Co. and Evelyn managed a restaurant for The Bon Marche for 11 years. When Eugene retired, they moved to Rock Island. They reared three grandchildren, Tony and Deanna Ackerman, and Richard Zastoupil. Evelyn served as a city clerk in Rock Island until she retired on their small acreage. The most important times in her life were spent with her family. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and for nearly 30 years worked with children in primary. She really loved children and the Lord and attended the church Temple in Seattle at every opportunity. She leaves her husband of 51 years, Eugene Briggs, of East Wenatchee; four children, Jacqueline Hunt of Apple Valley, Minn., Richard Briggs of Port Orchard, Susan Stinson of Cashmere, and Alice Brevik of Marysville; three sisters, Maxine McMannus of Iowa, Elaine Templin of Minnesota, and Betty Regner of California; six brothers, Boyd Ressel of Davenport, Jack Ressel of Texas, Tom Ressel of Ada, Okla., Earl and Don Ressel, both of California, and Ron Ressel of Colorado; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Claresse Ankney. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
