Description	:	Evelyn B. Coffin Evelyn B. Coffin, more affectionately known as "Mom", was born January 19th, 1926, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Leslie and Mae Barnhill and was their only child. During her youth, Evelyn's favorite pastime was roller skating and spent many weekends at the roller rink. Read More	Evelyn B. Coffin Evelyn B. Coffin, more affectionately known as "Mom", was born January 19th, 1926, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Leslie and Mae Barnhill and was their only child. During her youth, Evelyn's favorite pastime was roller skating and spent many weekends at the roller rink. It was there she met her future husband, Harold Coffin through her cousins, Franklin and Max. Evelyn and Harold really hit it off, and were married February 6th, 1945, which happened to be the same date, a few years later, that her cousin, Max, married his wife, Gayle, so they spent many years celebrating their anniversaries together. Later, Evelyn and Harold moved to Pasadena, California, where their daughter Sandra Margaret was born in 1946 and their son, James Edward was born in 1949. In the following years, they moved back to Oskaloosa to be near family still living there, but found the winters too cold, and soon moved back to Pasadena. In 1954, 'Mom' Evelyn went to work at Burroughs making the circuit boards for their new product, 'The Computer'. They were huge boards about six foot square, but she managed to get them built. When she had the opportunity for advancement, 'Mom' Evelyn transferred to the shipping and receiving department. In 1956, they decided to try camping , so 'Dad' built a small tear drop trailer and off the the woods the family all went for many enjoyable weekends. The trailer was so small that the inside could only sleep three, so son Jimmy slept on the kitchen counter in the rear. The first camping trip to the Kern River Valley was made in that trailer. The next phase of Evelyn's life was her favorite, becoming a Grandmother. In 1967, daughter of Sandy and her husband Bud Elderbaum were stationed with the U.S. Air Force in England and were expecting their first child. Evelyn spent months planning her trip to England to help with her first born grandchild and obtained her passport and visa well ahead of time. When the time came, a call in the middle of the night startled her out of her sleep. She jumped out of bed and 'Dad' Harold asked, "What's happening?" She stopped and said maybe its the call from England and turned around and ran right into the door, resulting in a big 'shiner'. She left for England with her eye still black explaining to everyone that she was now a Grandmother. In 1970, 'Mom' was invited to join the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxillary in Pasadena. About a year later, 'Dad' convinced her to retire from her job. In 1974, 'Dad' became Worthy President of the Eagles Aerie and 'Mom' enjoyed supporting all of his endeavors. After the many more camping trips to the Kern River Valley, they decided it was the place to finally retire. The purchased their home in Mt. Mesa in 1978. It wasn't until 1981 that they completed the move, using their pickup truck, packed to the brim, which 'Mom' called their "Tobacco Road". They became active in the Kern River Valley Eagles and once again 'Dad' became Worthy President and 'Mom' was always right there beside him. On March 3, 2003, Evelyn B. Coffin passed away in Mt. Mesa. Her funeral services were held on March 6, 2003, at the Lake Isabella Funeral Home with the Eagles Auxillary officiating and she was interred at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights, California. Evelyn was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Sandy and her husband Bud, son Jim and his wife Teddie, five grandchildren, Buddy and his wife Lauri, Matt and his wife Deena , Danny and his wife Stephanie, Stephanie and her husband Anthony and Jimmy who is stationed at the ROTA Naval Base in Spain, and five great grandchildren, Stacey, Brittany, Ashleigh, Raygen and Kyle. Evelyn will be greatly missed by her beloved family and many friends!
