Description	:	The funeral mass for Evelyn Montgomery of Oakes, ND, will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Oakes, ND. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Ludden Cemetery. Evelyn Darlene Kullnat, daughter of John C. and Margaret Mae (Shannahan) Kullnat was born September 3, 1921 near Tamarack, Minnesota. In the spring of that year the family moved to Oakes, North Dakota, where she grew up. She attended school at Riverdale near Oakes, and also various country schools in the area. Evelyn was united in marriage to John "Jack" Montgomery, Jr. on August 7, 1942 at Clarksville, Tennessee. Evelyn lived in Ellendale, North Dakota with their twin sons while Jack was serving his country in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. After his discharge on December 23, 1945 he returned home, and in 1946 they moved to the old Sanford Baker farm near Ludden, North Dakota. In 1947, the family moved to the Montgomery farm. Evelyn was a cook at the Guelph School and also worked at the Ludden Bar. Their third son Carroll was born on December 26, 1946 and he died on December 5, 1984. Jack passed away on January 11, 1982 and Evelyn continued to live on their farm until moving to Oakes in 1997. In March of 2006, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society. Everyone who really knew Evelyn loved her and will miss her. Evelyn passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Society, Oakes North Dakota, at the age of 89. She is survived by two sons, Robert Montgomery, Lewistown, MT and Ronald (Gayle) Montgomery, Yucca Valley, CA; one brother, Raymond (Loretta) Kullnat, Mullins, SC; two half-brothers, Gary Dean (Linda) Kullnat, Tucson, AZ and James Edward (Karen) Kullnat, Pendleton, OR; one half-sister, Sylvia Anne Aikens, Sidney, NE; and one step-brother, Delmar (Shirley) Kalbus, Indianola, IA. Evelyn is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, John C. and Margaret, her step-mother, Emma Michaelis Kalbus Kullnat, a son, Carroll, 3 brothers, John, Donald, and Kenneth Kullnat, and 2 sisters, Vera Michaelis and Betty Zinter.
