Barnes, 47, of Blue Grass, died at Mery hospital, Davenport, Thursday at 5:20 p.m. after an extended illness. A native of LeClaire where she was born May 24, 1902, she was the daughter of the late James and Elfreda (Thielke) Litscher, and she was reared by her grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bailey of LeClaire. She was married March 17, 1926, to Chester A. Barnes, who survives her. Mrs. Barnes was of Presbyterian faith and she was a member of the Phi Omega club at Blue Grass. The body was taken to Hill & Fredericks mortuary where funeral services will be held in the chapel Monday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Blue Grass cemetery. Thursday - March 18, 1926 - The marriage of Miss Evelyn Elizabeth Litschter, daugther of Mr. and Mrs. E. Litschter of Davenport, and Chester A. Barnes, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Barnes of Blue Grass, Ia., was a ceremony of 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the parsonage of St. John's Methodist Episcopal church at Davenport, the Rev. Frank Court officiating. Birth certificate shows that she was born in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois (FHL Film # 1288038) QC Times - Wednesday - June 26, 1912 Claim Child Abandoned. In an answer filed by John Bailey and wife today, in the suit instituted by James A Litscher in behalf of Evelyn Litscher for the possession of the child now held by the defendant, he claims that the child was abandoned by its parents at the time he took it into his home. Denial of the other charges brought by the plaintiff is made by the defendant, and he further asks dismissal of the suit. Attorney J.A. Hanley filed the answer. QC Times - Sunday - July 7, 1912 In the fight over the possession of Evelyn Litscher, which was instituted by her father, James A. Litscher, against the child's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bailey, Judge Theophilus yesterday declared the child still in the legal possession of the defendants. He held in his ruling in the case that the plaintiff voluntarily surrendered the child into the care and custody of the defendants when it was a baby and that since then the defendants have given it the proper care and have considered it as their own child. The girl was in court and when questioned state that she was willing to remain with the defendants. QC Times - Sunday - March 06, 1921 Elfrieda T. Litscher, who married James A. Litscher in Chicago on April 29, 1902, claims he deserted her in Albany, Ill, ten years later. Cook & Balluff are the attorneys.
