Description	:	Evelyn Grace (Herrin) Roat was born April 3, 1915, to Mike Bauch and Ida (Stein) Kovitch in Mosinee, Wis. She died at age 92 of natural causes on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, surrounded by her family, pastor and dear friend. Evelyn was very alert to the end. She died at age 92 of natural causes on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, surrounded by her family, pastor and dear friend. Evelyn was very alert to the end. She went to school until the sixth grade and worked with her family in the fern fields in Michigan. Her father died when she was 15 years old and she moved out to Montana to stay with an aunt. She met the love of her life, Lemont P. Herrin, and they married on June 17, 1931, when Evelyn was 16. They leased the Midway Bar in Elliston and after that they purchased and owned L.P.'s Bar in Avon. They had two children, Arnold Lemont and Joanne Grace. Her husband died on April 3, 1956, and Evelyn continued to work her place of business with the help of friends and family. Evelyn met her second love, Charles C. Roat, and they married Feb. 28, 1958. The two of them continued to work in L.P.'s Bar until 1970. It was then that they met Jesus and became born again. They moved to Deer Lodge at that time. Chuck built their home at 820 Pennsylvania, and they lived there until the time of their passing on to be with the Lord. Chuck died Dec. 16, 2001. Evelyn loved to help people and worked tirelessly with ladies from church making quilts that they gave away to needy people and missionaries. She worked at the People That Love Center in Deer Lodge for many years. She spent countless hours washing, repairing and ironing clothing to be given away to those in need. She also enjoyed cooking for church potlucks and was a faithful servant of her Lord. She enjoyed writing in her diary each day up until the time she couldn't write anymore. Evelyn loved to dance when she was younger. She often listened to her husband Chuck play the guitar and accordion while he sang. Evelyn was an avid photographer and her home is filled with pictures that she took beginning in her childhood. She earned her cherished box camera selling Rosebud Salve as a young woman. One of her favorite places was the Roat Cabin outside of Avon. Her daughter, Joanne, moved from Alaska in 1997 to care for her mother for the past 11 years. Evelyn was proceeded in death by her parents, Mike and Ida Bauch; son, Arnold Lemont; husbands, L.P. Herrin and Charles Roat; great-great-granddaughter, Cerilene Ferris; brothers, Edward and Raymond; and sisters, Florence and Marie. Survivors include her daughter, Joanne Beckwith, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be held in the family crypt at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Helena.
