Description	:	On a bright sunny day, June 5, 1928, a bundle of joy, Evelyn Haynes, was delivered in a farm house west of Scotland to Theodore and Emilie (Janke) Haase. She grew up on the farm. Read More	On a bright sunny day, June 5, 1928, a bundle of joy, Evelyn Haynes, was delivered in a farm house west of Scotland to Theodore and Emilie (Janke) Haase. She grew up on the farm. She attended school in Kaylor for her first ten years of formal training and graduated from Scotland High School in 1946. That summer she attended Yankton College to learn how to become a rural school teacher. In the fall of ’46, she taught at Nelson School and did so for three years, followed by Plattner school where she was for ten years, then the Kaylor School for her last four years. Evelyn met John Haynes in 1946 when he returned from WWII in Europe. They were married on June 20, 1948 and made Scotland their forever home. Following her retirement from teaching, Evelyn and John joined The Stanley Haynes Plumbing business where she worked as the bookkeeper. She also worked at First Dakota National Bank about three years until she became the secretary at Scotland High school from 1970 until 1989. Evelyn was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church Missouri Synod-Kaylor as a young woman and maintained her membership in that church until recently when she joined the United Church of Christ in Scotland. Evelyn’s love in life has always been for our veterans. When the Ladies Auxiliary to Paul Grosshuesch Post #2966 was chartered in 1947, Evelyn and her mother Emilie were right there, and both remained loyal to the last days of their lives. Not only active in the local Auxiliary and serving in all officer chairs, Evelyn was District President twice. She became a National Aide de camp for initiating 25 new members in one year. For this she earned a trip to California to the national Convention. Evelyn became the State President of the VFW Auxiliary during the Centennial years of 1988-89. Her theme was ‘Heart of Gold’ which truly she had. She was nominated ‘Outstanding President’ in August 1987. Whether standing on the street and selling poppies on a Saturday night, organizing the Loyalty Day essay contest, the Veterans Day program, the Memorial Day program, or a memorial service for a departed sister, Evelyn was there and you could count on her! John and Evelyn Haynes had no children of their own, but helped raise their nieces and nephews (the children of Evelyn’s sister Myrtle and John’s brother Stanley) by setting examples, giving words of encouragement, inviting them into their own home, being there for them whenever they were needed, and generous monetary gifts slipped in at just the right time. Evelyn passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society of Scotland having attained the age of 90 years. Evelyn is survived by her sister-in-law Virginia Haynes, several nieces, nephews, their families, and a host of friends. - Goglin Funeral Home
