Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Evelyn Hattie Ascher was born August 21, 1925, in rural Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Martha (Harms) Ascher. She attended grade school in Wellsburg, Iowa and graduated from Nashua High School in 1943. Evelyn became employed at Lutheran Mutual in Waverly, working there for one year. Evelyn met Eldon Hauser when her family moved on a neighboring farm, and the couple were married January 16, 1944, at St. John's United Church of Christ – Pleasant Hill in rural Nashua. To this union three girls were born, Judy, Joyce and Janice. Evelyn had a passion for quilting and had made numerous quilts over her years. Every year Evelyn looked forward to going on family fishing trips to Canada. She and Eldon enjoyed traveling. Evelyn enjoyed gardening. She was renown by her grandchildren for her pies, sugar cookies and homemade jelly. Evelyn cherished time spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn is survived by her husband of seventy years, Eldon; three daughters, Judy (Byron) Hemingson of Runnels, IA, Joyce (Mike) Horne of Newnan, GA, and Janice (Bob) Haskins of Urbandale, IA; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Myrna (Roger) Pope of Mason City, IA; sister-in-law, Helen Ascher of Nashua, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother Harley Ascher.
