Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Virgil Lowell Elliott; her parents, James Alfred Haws and Esther Rhonemus Haws; grandson, Brent Robert Hartman. She is survived by daughters, Barbara Elliott Hartman of Poynette, Wis, and Linda Elliott Beuhring of Springfield, VA; sons-in-law, Donald Robert Hartman and Ronald Edward Beuhring; granddaughters, Christine Hartman Conroy (William Gerard Conroy) and lara Beuhring Schneidmiller (Eric William Schneidmiller); grandson, Aaron Elliott Beuhring (Johanna Llein Beuhring) great-granddaughters, Meghan Mary Conroy, Kaitlyn Grace Schneidmiller, Caroline Kay Schneidmiller, and Julia Morgan Schneidmiller, great-grandson, Brendan patrick Conroy, Cousins, Dorothy Lieurance Smith and Janice Smith Van Pelt. She is survived by numerous relatives. A Huntington native and graduate of Huntington EAst High's first June class, Evelyn received her bachelor's degree in 1944 from Marshall College, where she was the editor of the college yearbook. She moved to Charleston with her family in 1946 and has remained here since. Her 32 year tecching career befan as a substitute for kanawha County in 1956, where she closed the one-room school in Canawha County. In 1959 she was hired to teach eighth grande English at Thomas Jefferson Junior High, and in 1964 she transferred to Stonewall Jackson High staying until it closed in 1989. Evelyn sponsored the Stonewall yearbook, the Jacksonian, for 10 years and for the remaining 15 years she taught Senior English, with emphasis on writing skills. Following her retirement she continued to write essays and poems and compiled a family history. Additionally she selfpublished an account of her three trips to Europe. While living at Edgewood Summit she had participated in art classes and been involved in the Summit's theater group, the Ad Hoe Players. The funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday, February 19, at Bartlett Burdette Cox Funerl Home, with the Rev. Archie Snedegar, Associate Pastor at Charleston Baptits Temple, officiating. Interment will be held at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, following the funeral. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm, Monday, February 18, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children and Burn Centers. Condolences may be sent to the family at bartlettburdettecoxfuneralhome.com.
