Evelyn was born on October 17, 1928 at Cereal, Alberta to Emma and Elmer Iverson. Evelyn was born on October 17, 1928 at Cereal, Alberta to Emma and Elmer Iverson. She was baptized in the Lutheran church in Sedalia and in 1943 was confirmed at the Grace Lutheran church in Dawson Creek. The Iverson family homesteaded in the Bonanza area, where Evelyn grew up and attended school. In 1947, Evelyn met Clifford Peterson in Dawson Creek, and they were married on April 23, 1948. The newlyweds spent part of their first year of marriage in the Yukon and Northern B.C., and in 1951 moved to their homestead at Bonanza. Evelyn and Cliff were married for over 51 years, during which time she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Evelyn worked hard to make the homestead into a home. She spent many long winters alone with the children, no power, running water or indoor facilities while Cliff worked as a catskinner to finance the operation. Evelyn was a master of knitting, crocheting, and quilting which she sadly missed when her hands became crippled. Having come from a musical family, music was always a large part of her life and she always enjoyed singing, whistling, dancing or just listening to it. Every year in June Evelyn would be on the hunt for the first wild strawberries. She was always looking for the best patch and would be extremely upset if they were driven over by a tractor or anything else. Evelyn's other interests included playing cards, bridge with neighbours until the wee hours and whist at family gatherings. Curling was a favourite winter pastime of Evelyn and she also enjoyed being a member of the Pouce Coupe Legion. She kept a diary for almost 50 years, writing in it religiously every day until she became too ill. Everything Evelyn did was done to perfection, whether it be knitting a sock, baking a pie or making a bed. During the last few years she became crippled with debilitating arthritis but was never one to complain. Her strength gave us all strength. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Emma Iverson, sisters Mayme and Agnes, brothers Marvin, Steven, Emmett and sister-law Julie. Evelyn is survived by her loving husband Cliff, children Maxine and husband Don Perry, Marvin and wife Jean, Mavis and husband Bill Melnyk, Marty and Verna Charlton, sister Donna and husband Bud Porada, 12 grandchildren, one great grandson and numerous other relatives. Funeral services for Evelyn were held on Friday Oct 22, at 2 p.m. from the Bonanza Hall in Bonanza, Alberta. Rev. George Bullen officiated. Interment was at the Hill Haven Cemetery. Funeral Services were under the care of Reynar's Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.
