Description	:	Evelyn Irene Vanorny Bierle, age 97 of Lesterville, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ, Scotland, SD with pastor Ron Shifley officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. in the Garden of Memories, Yankton, SD. Visitations will be Friday, September 16, 2016 beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, SD. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Evelyn was born near Lesterville to George and Mary (Kolda) Vanorny on May 13, 1919. She graduated from high school in Lesterville. After working in Yankton, she married Adolph “Babe” Bierle in 1939. They lived and farmed near Utica before purchasing their farm near Lesterville. Later they retired in Lesterville where she lived until this past year when her health required her to move into assisted living in Yankton. She enjoyed baseball and watched the Twins faithfully. She was an active fan of the Lesterville Broncs and youth baseball teams. Evelyn was an excellent cook; if you stopped to visit, food was always on the table within minutes. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting many items, especially for her grandchildren. She was a member of Ward Memorial Congregational Church until 1982, when the church closed, and then a member of Scotland United Church of Christ. Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Peggy Munkvold of Lesterville, SD and Mary (Ben) Lerssen of Sioux Falls, SD; sons, Dan (Janice) and Daryl (Charlotte) of Lesterville, SD; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph, parents, sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian (Henry) Bierle, Ruby (Dean) Bierle; brother and sister in law, Edwin (Alice) Vanorny and son-in-law, Albert Munkvold. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Lesterville Fire Department/EMT’s, Scotland Good Samaritan Society, Autumn Winds and Majestic Bluffs.
