Visitation was Thursday, February 16, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. Evie Jo was born on October 3, 1950 at the St Mary-Parkview Hospital in Manhattan to Melvin and Eleanor (Glanzer) Hamilton. She attended Waterville High School and graduated from Valley Heights. Evie Jo was a lifetime member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Waterville. She was a member of the Girl Scouts, while in elementary school. Evie Jo never had children but treated her four nieces as her own, she spoiled them far more than their parents! She was a very logical person, giving her nieces detergent, softener, shampoo, conditioner, tooth paste, deodorant and other everyday items for Christmas gifts. She always remembered their birthdays and every holiday with cards in the mail. She also loved to cook, Chicken noodle soup with ‘real’ mashed potatoes, was just one of her specialties. Despite numerous health problems, the medical field was her love. She started working as a nurse’s aide, continued as a ward clerk and unit secretary and ended her over 47-year career as a receptionist in the doctor’s office. While working at the hospital, she was always asked by the doctors to make the coffee, because she made the best tasting coffee, but never drank a single drop herself. When Faith Quest, a Wednesday evening program at St. Mark Lutheran Church, started, Evie Jo was an instant helper. Her job title was ‘shepherd’ and she fulfilled the image of a shepherd to all the children. She never missed a session, driving from Marysville every Wednesday night that Faith Quest was held. She helped with the annual soup supper, usually cutting pies and providing several items and helping in any way she could. Her partner in crime was her cat, Spook. Evie Jo rescued this poor, pitiful, black kitten after a bad rain storm and he was her companion for over thirteen years. Preceding her in death were her parents; and several aunts and uncles. Survivors include her brother, Lowell (Susan) Hamilton, Marysville; four nieces, JoAnne (Kevin) Swayne, Hays, Kristina Castillo, Sabetha, Elizabeth Hamilton, Tulsa, OK, and Mandy (Brian) Cook, Marysville; great nieces and nephews, Xander and Cade Swayne, Conrad and Alexis Castillo, and Ian and Natalie Cook. Memorials may be made to Faith Quest at St. Mark Lutheran Church and sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
