Preceded in death by her parents Harley and Thelma Atkins and husband Dennis. ~ Evelyn "Lorene" Atkins Myers, daughter of the late Harley and Thelma (DeWeese) Atkins, was born February 17, 1919, in Midco, MO and departed this life at Mercy Hospital in Mountain View, MO on January 26, 2016, surrounded by her family. Preceded in death by her parents Harley and Thelma Atkins and husband Dennis. ~ Evelyn "Lorene" Atkins Myers, daughter of the late Harley and Thelma (DeWeese) Atkins, was born February 17, 1919, in Midco, MO and departed this life at Mercy Hospital in Mountain View, MO on January 26, 2016, surrounded by her family. She had attained the age of ninety-six years, eleven months and nine days. On February 26, 1935, Lorene was united in marriage to William Dennis "Dee" Myers in Eminence, MO. They were married for 57 years. To this union six children were born; LaVerne, Norma, Shannon, Anita, Mickey, and Sharon. In addition to her parents, Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Myers; three sons-in-law, Loyd Matthews, Raymond Wakefield, and Jim Wilson; one grandson Dennis Dixon; one great-granddaughter, Corina Lee “Boppie” Wilken; one great-great-granddaughter, Laura Elisabeth “Lizzie” Green; two brothers, Fred Atkins and infant brother Shannon Atkins; a sister Aileen Voyles; and a half-sister, Iness Dinkins. Survivors include six children, LaVerne Matthews of Poplar Bluff, MO, Norma Stevenson and husband Al of Saint Clair, MO, Shannon Jones and husband Dwain of Winona, MO, Anita Wakefield of Pacific, MO, Mickey Myers and wife Jean of Winona, MO, and Sharon Wilson of Winona, MO; two brothers, Bob Atkins and Rex Atkins; four sisters, Donna Bressler, Betty McIntire, Avenell Seay, and Nedra Holland; seventeen grandchildren; sixty great-grandchildren; sixty great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren, and many more friends and relatives who mourn her passing. Lorene grew up and raised her family in Winona. She worked various jobs, including Johnny’s Café, Angelica, the TV Factory, Paramount Cap Factory, as well as owning and operating a doughnut shop. She was a 1947 charter member of the Winona Assembly of God Church where she served as Adult Sunday School Teacher and Song Leader. She later moved to Poplar Bluff with her daughter and son-in-law, LaVerne and Loyd Matthews, where she lived for fifteen years. There, she attended the Christian Church and also served as Sunday School Teacher for a time. She loved God and served Him with all her heart. As her health declined, Lorene spent her last months at Mountain View Healthcare, where she continued to touch hearts. Lorene enjoyed making quilt tops, crocheting, working with plastic canvas – creating gifts of all kinds, and decorating birthday cakes and wedding cakes, of which she especially loved creating for her grandchildren. She also loved to fish and could spend all day on a river or pond bank. She was a wonderful cook; preparing her specialities, such as fried pies, cinnamon rolls, chicken and dumplings, brown beans and cornbread, just to name a few. She loved cooking for her family and enjoyed spending time with all of them. You would often see extra plates on the table for extended family, brothers and sisters or friends the children brought home, but there always seemed to be plenty and you never heard her complain. She dearly loved her family, but most of all, Lorene loved the Lord and lived her life as an example to her family and others. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7)." She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.Interment at Mount Zion Cemetery.
