Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Westmark Evangelical Free Church north of Loomis with the Rev. Mike Hellum officiating. Cremation will follow services. Private family interment will be later at Sandstrom Cemetery in rural Bertrand. Private family interment will be later at Sandstrom Cemetery in rural Bertrand. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege with the family present from 6-7:30 p.m. Evelyn was born June 11, 1922, on a farm three miles west of Holdrege in Phelps County, the youngest of 13 children born to Harry John and Amanda Lydia (Lundberg) Johnson. Evie received her primary education at District 39 Industry School in Phelps County through the eighth grade and then graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1940. Following her education, Evie began her working career at Sehnert’s Bakery, Dickerson Drug Store and then Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. On May 30, 1945, she married Roy B. “Bud” Johnson in Phillipsburg, Kan., and to this union four children were born: Pat, Richard, Kit and Rex. Bud and Evie farmed south of Overton for 30 years until his retirement in 1982. After their retirement from farming, Evie worked at Bertrand Nursing Home from 1982-2004 in the Dietary Department. On Dec. 21, 2008, Evie was preceded in death by Bud. In 2010, Evie began to make her home in assisted living at Bertrand Nursing Home. Evie was a member of Westmark Evangelical Free Church where she taught Sunday school, served as Sunday school superintendent and was active with the Women’s Ministry Society and White Cross. For many years, she also was a member of the Silver Thimble Extension Club, and she formed many friendship bonds. In addition, Evie also loved to crochet in her spare time. Evie leaves to celebrate her life one daughter, Pat Dunlap; three sons, Richard Johnson and his wife, Bonnie, Kit Johnson and his wife, Gloria, and Rex Johnson and his wife, Chris; seven grandchildren, Andrew Dunlap and his wife, Megan, Aaron Dunlap and his wife, Amy, Kaj Johnson and his wife, Sarah, Marc Johnson and his wife, Stephanie, Amanda Ellis and her husband, T.J., Ethan Johnson and his fiancée, Caroline Hiltner, and Justin Johnson; two stepgrandchildren, Michael Berumen and his wife, Sabrina, and Julie Ann Robles and her husband, Jon; seven great-grandchildren, Emma and Aidan Dunlap, Adelia, Aaralyn and Ace Dunlap and Maxine and Rune Johnson; six stepgreat-grandchildren, Linzie, Kylie and Jon Berumen and Kyle, Korah and Kage Ellis; one stepgreat-great-granddaughter, Lilly Alyana Berumen; sister-in-law, Erma Kelly of Minnesota; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, Bud, Evie was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, David Dunlap; eight sisters, Florence Erickson and her husband, Allen, Margaret Richardson and her husband, W.L., Helen Johnson and her husband, Carl, Ruth Johnson, Edna Ibsen and her husband, Art, Esther Dahlgren and her husband, Paul, Alice Anderson and her husband, Dale, and Jeanne Johnson and her husband, Alwyn; four brothers, Harold “Bud” Johnson and his wife, Bernice, Paul Johnson and his wife, Ruth, James Johnson and his wife, Eleanor, and Sterling Johnson and his wife, Helen; brothers-in-law, Morris Johnson at 16 years old and Kerwood Kelly; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Johnson. Memorials are suggested to Westmark Evangelical Free Church of rural Loomis or Bertrand Nursing Home. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
