She was born May 23, 1927 in Brainerd, Minn., daughter of Percival M. and Clara Wheeler Blake. She married Lynn A. Kerns August 14, 1948 in Oelwein. He died November 15, 2001. Evelyn was employed with John Deere for 14 years, retiring in 1985. Evelyn enjoyed her life as a wife and mother to her children celebrating the birthdays and holidays. She married Lynn A. Kerns August 14, 1948 in Oelwein. He died November 15, 2001. Evelyn was employed with John Deere for 14 years, retiring in 1985. Evelyn enjoyed her life as a wife and mother to her children celebrating the birthdays and holidays. She loved to cook and always kept busy keeping up her home. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Ruth Circle, Women of the church, and the contemporary choir. She helped with kitchen events and duties that were needed. She always enjoyed her church family and neighbors. Survivors include two sons, Henry (Nancy) Kerns of Garwin and Wayne (Suzanne) Kerns of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Lynn Marie (David) Hanke of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; Michael (Melissa) Dufel and their children Kaleb and Evan; Kelly (Brian) Breuner and their children Andrew and Allie; Cambray (Curt) Penning and their children Brayden, Keaton, Jaden, and Owen; Justin (Tiffany) Kerns and their children, Easton and Remington; and Kyle (Lucy) Kerns; a brother, Robert (Janice) Blake of Waterloo and a sister, Mary (Ed) Reed of Cedar Falls. Preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy; two sisters, Erma Blake and Bernadine Finical and three brothers, Gerald, Tom and George Blake. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
