Greg Berkey will officiate. Music will be provided by Eloise Falk, organist, and Darrel Crocker, soloist. Evelyn passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at a care center in Watertown. She was the widow of Paul Siegfried. Burial will be in Goodwin Cemetery in Goodwin. Pallbearers will be Evelyn’s grandchildren: James Propst, David Propst, Daniel Propst, Lyndon Propst, Greg Anderson, Brad Anderson, Jennifer Johnson, Adam Siegfried, Brian Siegfried, Aaron Siegfried, and Cathy Frericks. Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and will continue in the church on Saturday prior to the services. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service. Evelyn was born on September 12, 1915, to Ezra and Agnes (Goddard) West at Bemis, SD. She attended school in Goodwin and graduated from Clear Lake High School at the age of 16 in 1932. On June 12, 1935, Evelyn married Paul Siegfried and their love affair continued for 58 years until on June 12, 1993, Paul passed away. Evelyn was an active partner in the couple’s farming operation and it was on the farm that the couple raised their four children. In 1977, the couple built a new home in Goodwin and sold their farming operation. Although they married during the Depression and began farming during tough economic times, they understood the importance of finding time to enjoy their family, friends, travel, and many years of square dancing throughout the state and region. Evelyn was an assessor for Goodwin Township for a number of years and secretary of the Goodwin Cemetery for 25 years. In 1971, Evelyn began employment with Fab-N-Trim in Watertown and eventually became the manager. Later, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Lindsay Soft Water. Evelyn lived in Deuel County until she moved to Cedar View Assisted living in Watertown, SD, in 2006. Evelyn was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Goodwin and later Watertown, SD. While a member in Goodwin, Evelyn served as a pianist, treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, and Superintendent. She also was a member of the Women Mission Circle and held various other positions in the church. She was recognized by her church and community for serving as their pianist for over 60 years. When membership at First Baptist Church in Goodwin declined and was forced to close; Evelyn coordinated efforts to preserve the heritage of their beloved church, which was built in 1882 in Dakota Territory, by finding a new home for it in 1995 at Prairie Village, Madison, SD. An accomplished seamstress and homemaker, she also enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and was a member of the Crafts and Laughs Extension Club. Evelyn also enjoyed playing cards with her friends at the Senior Citizens in Goodwin. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and continued to enjoy playing pinochle. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband; her parents; an infant son, Daryl Dean; a sister, Pearl Foster; two brothers, Verne and Glenn West; a granddaughter, Kay Lynn Propst; and one great-grandchild.
