Description	:	In Memory of Evelyn Sheriff, 71, of Sheffield, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019, at her home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 8, at Zion St. John Lutheran Church, Sheffield, with Rev. G Kim Wills presiding. Interment will be at Wayside Cemetery, Chapin. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield. Evelyn Mae Sheriff was born April 14, 1947, in Mason City, a daughter of M. Dwain and Maude (Liekweg) Schinagel. She was confirmed at Zion St. John Lutheran Church on March 26, 1961. Evelyn attended Sheffield-Chapin School, graduating with the class of 1965. She then attended LaJames College and earned her license as a beautician. On August 27, 1967 Evelyn was united in marriage with Eugene Sheriff at Zion St. John Lutheran Church. While Gene was finishing college Evelyn worked in the Seed Lab at the Botany Department at Iowa State University. They lived in New York for a few years before returning to Sheffield to help manage the family farm for 4 years before returning to Rochester, New York. She then worked at Harris Seed Company, sending mail order seeds all over the country and recognizing many Sheffield addresses and names. Later Gene was transferred to Colorado and they lived there for 15 years until retirement when they moved back to Sheffield. Evelyn worked at the Sharing Shoppe in later years. Evelyn had a passion for feeding and watching wild birds and taking care of stray cats, which became family. She loved celebrating holidays, especially Christmas and collecting Hummels and Roseville Pottery. Family members include her husband of 51 years: Eugene; brothers: Roger (Lisa) Schinagel, Mason City; Gary Schinagel, Mason City; many Nieces and Nephews including: Nichole Schinagel, Beau Schinagel, Caden Schinagel, Delaney Schinagel, Phillip Sheriff, Brian Sheriff, Erin Sheriff, Steven Sheriff, Max Tuinstra, Rene Tuinstra, Amy Layman, William Tuinstra, Jamie Meier, Levi Sheriff and Hayley Armstrong; In-laws: Keith (Linda) Sheriff; Diane Tuinstra; Jay (Eva) Sheriff; Dale (Gail) Sheriff; special friends: Diane Schinagel and Beverly Strattman. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents.
