Description	:	Evelyn Marie Jones died Monday May 25th. She was born March 20, 1939 in Newhall Calif. Went to school in Lindsay, Calif. till sixth grade, graduated from Compton high school 1957. Evelyn was the daughter of Ralph and Nancy Ashcraft. In June of 1958 she married David L Jones. They had four children and lived for many years in Riverside CA. She spent countless hours helping the schools that her... Read More	Evelyn Marie Jones died Monday May 25th. She was born March 20, 1939 in Newhall Calif. Went to school in Lindsay, Calif. till sixth grade, graduated from Compton high school 1957. Evelyn was the daughter of Ralph and Nancy Ashcraft. In June of 1958 she married David L Jones. They had four children and lived for many years in Riverside CA. From Sept 1965 till May of 1983 Evelyn worked for the Jurupa Unified School District as a Middle School guidance secretary. During those years Evelyn spent time as PTA president. She spent countless hours helping the schools that her children attended with fund raisers and school events. She was involved with Little League by being the official score keeper at the games for the leagues her sons were playing in. She was very active with her church activities, teaching Sunday school and being involved in vacation bible school. After their children all graduated from high school Evelyn moved to Porterville with her husband David in May of 1983, where he transferred with his work with the Southern Calf. Gas Company. She then planned to start a small farm in the back field of their property. She got some chickens, ducks, and goats to start with. She thought it was the greatest to be able to have fresh eggs each morning. They also had 50 orange trees and enjoyed having fresh orange juice. In July of that same year, their oldest granddaughter Nicole, who was only six months, came to live with them. Evelyn started over raising a new generation of the family. She got involved in PTA at John J Doyle School from 1988 through 1994. During that time she campaigned with the help of then County Supervisor Gary Reed to have "No Parking" signs put up on East Orange Avenue between Leggett St & the school. That was to protect the children walking to and from school. As an active member of First Sothern Baptist Church, she taught different ages of children in Sunday school and was a strong force in the yearly Vacation Bible School program. She was a member of the Social committee for many years. Evelyn is preceded in death by her mother & father and sister & bother in-law Jim & Henrietta Poteet, and by four months her husband David Lee Sr. She is survived by her four children: daughter & husband, Don & Debbie Lovelady; oldest son & wife David Lee Jr. & Laura Jones; middle son Michael Duwane Jones; youngest son and wife, Larry & Michelle Jones; five grandchildren: granddaughter & husband Kai & Nicole Miller; granddaughter & husband Tony & Morgan Harding; Grandson & girlfriend William McBride & Lisa Watson; granddaughter & husband Patrick & Melissa Aguirre-Smith; granddaughter & husband Robert & Roxanne Scott; two great-grandsons: Kelton Conner Scott 5yrs old & Destin Taylor Scott 3yrs old. Also, several step-grand's & step-great-grand's are in Spokane WA. She will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery. The service will be at 1:30pm on Friday the 29th. The service will be officiated by her nephew Rev. Ron Hall of Lake Elsinore. Published in The Porterville Recorder on May 29, 2015
