Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 10th in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with the Rev. Edward Girres officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Evelyn Mattie Rhodes was born April 12, 1913, the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Seaver) Rhodes, in the home of her grandparents, George and Evey Seaver. She attended Duncombe School. As a young girl, she became employed at Mercy Hospital. At the age of 18 she was united in marriage to Earl Sheker and they made their home in Fort Dodge. He was killed in a train crossing accident just months before their daughter was born. Evelyn became a beautician and owned and operated several beauty shops and also worked as a seamstress for L & D. On April 13, 1942 she married John A. Schuller in Virginia where John was stationed with the Army. John passed away in 1975 and she then married Dale Holbrook in 1977, who was from Iowa Falls, and he was deceased in 2002. Evelyn was extremely talented in many fields including knitting, crocheting, embroidery, sewing, stained glass, china painting, cake decorating, upholstery, floor tiling, rug making, knitting machine, plumbing, bread and cake making and was an organist. No one loved gadgets more than Evelyn. She was the very classiest of ladies, very fun loving, gentle and extremely charitable to those with illness. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
