Jack Chan officiating. A memorial service for Mrs. Thayer will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the First Presbyterian Church in Moses Lake, Wash. Interment will be in Pioneer Memorial Garden, Moses Lake. Mrs. Thayer died Sept. 13, 2003, in Willamette Valley Medical Center, McMinnville. She was 85. Interment will be in Pioneer Memorial Garden, Moses Lake. Mrs. Thayer died Sept. 13, 2003, in Willamette Valley Medical Center, McMinnville. She was 85. She was born Dec. 21, 1917, in Spokane, Wash., the daughter of William Byrd and Edna Dora Fleming Curryer. She was raised and educated in Orchard Prairie, Wash. She graduated from John Rogers High School in 1936 and received a teaching certificate from Eastern Washington State College, Cheney, Wash., in 1940. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Edwall, Wash. She and Charles Henry Chamberlin were married in Spokane. After marrying, the couple moved to Moses Lake, Wash., where both worked as teachers. In June, 1943, they moved to Hobbs, N.M., where her husband was in the Army Air Forces band. They moved back to Moses Lake after World War II. She taught in Central School and later in Peninsula School from 1952 to 1978, then retired. Mrs. Thayer was very interested in helping children learn to read. She gave statewide workshops on the WORD reading program, and worked with and trained student teachers in her classrooms. She was preceded in death by her first husband in 1967. She and Alden D. Thayer were married Aug. 11, 1974, in Moses Lake. He died in 1993. She had lived in McMinnville since 1998. She belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma, an honor society for women in education, and to PEO. She participated in church activities, including choir, teaching and supervising church school programs and women's organizations. She also had served as a deacon. Mrs. Thayer loved spending time with her family. She had always been interested in teaching the young and their teachers. She also enjoyed music, sewing, gardening and helping others. Survivors include a daughter, Camille Kumnick of McMinnville; a son, William Chamberlin of Gainesville, Fla.; a brother, Harold Curryer of Spokane; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Flora B. Davis. Memorial contributions may be made to the Moses Lake First Presbyterian Church Building Fund or the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation in care of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, 135 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128.
