Description	:	Evelyn ‘Pat' Vanicek, 81, of Schuyler, died Sunday, July 31, 2011, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, in Schuyler, with Lay Minister Jerry L. Kracl officiating. Committal will be in the Schuyler Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the Presbyterian Fellowship Hall. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Kracl Funeral Chapel continuing 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Evelyn was born in Schuyler on March 17, 1930, to David and Ruby (Scott) Legler. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1948 and was valedictorian of her class. She married Wallace Vanicek on April 30, 1949, and they farmed in the North Bend and Schuyler areas. They had two children, Cindy and Kent Vanicek. She began working as a secretary in the Colfax County Welfare Department in 1964 and when she retired in 1993 she was an Area Director for the Nebraska Department of Social Services in Columbus. Pat loved working in her flower garden that was filled with plantings, walkways and figurines. She collected angel figurines and loved visiting with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, David (Bud) Jr., Leonard (Skip) Legler; sisters, Dorothy Morbach and Betty Bohaty; and son, Kent Vanicek. She was survived by her daughter, Cindy (Leon) Houdesheldt, of Columbus; sisters, Susie (Vernon) Eilers, of Schuyler, Marge (Adrian) Mihulka, of Columbus; and brother, William (Pat) Legler, of Fremont; brothers-in-law, Leroy Vanicek, of York, and Richard (Dick) Vanicek, of Arizona; three grandsons, Jeremy Vanicek, Allen and Brian Houdesheldt; two granddaughters, Danielle and Samantha Vanicek; and four great-grandsons, Kendal and Zachary Vanicek, and Alexzander and Chase Houdesheldt.
