Evelyn Susan, second daughter of Charles E. and Eleanor Jane (Hopkins) Hoover, was born December 6, 1905, 2 1/2 miles northeast of Dawson, with Grandma Coulter attending. She graduated from Dawson High School in 1923. She attended one quarter in Valley City Normal in 1930 and then returned to Weiser Township, near Pettibone, ND, and taught 11 years in rural schools, seven of them in Weiser. Read More	Evelyn Susan DeVore, 100, Steele, North Dakota died Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at MedCenter One Golden Manor in Steele. Evelyn Susan, second daughter of Charles E. and Eleanor Jane (Hopkins) Hoover, was born December 6, 1905, 2 1/2 miles northeast of Dawson, with Grandma Coulter attending. She graduated from Dawson High School in 1923. She attended one quarter in Valley City Normal in 1930 and then returned to Weiser Township, near Pettibone, ND, and taught 11 years in rural schools, seven of them in Weiser. She clerked weekends and Christmas vacations at the Dawson Post Office from 1924-1936, then fulltime until 1942. On October 27, 1938, Evelyn married Harry A. DeVore at Dawson. They moved to Steele in 1942. She worked at the Federated Store for three years. Harry passed away in October 1970. Evelyn entered MedCenter One Golden Manor in January 2000 and resided there until her death. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Ladies Home Circle and a charter member of the Senior Citizens of Dawson. In 1944, she joined the Steele Chapter 118 O.E.S., was treasurer for 35 years and was Worthy Matron in 1952. In 1957, she joined the VFW Auxiliary Mode Sherman Post 6959 of Steele. Evelyn is survived by her nephew, Charles (Alice) Johns, Bismarck, ND; several other nieces and nephews and special friends, Tim and Frances White of Steele. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers and two sisters. Burial: Dawson Cemetery, Dawson, North Dakota.
