Description	:	Evelyn Madtson, 88, a longtime Withrow-Waterville resident, passed away Sunday morning, February 18, 2007, at Blossom Creek Memory Care Center in Wenatchee. She was born on May 9, 1918, at Waterville, the daughter of the late Henry and Dovie (Hensel) McGrath. She lived most of her life in the Waterville-Withrow area. Read More	Evelyn Madtson, 88, a longtime Withrow-Waterville resident, passed away Sunday morning, February 18, 2007, at Blossom Creek Memory Care Center in Wenatchee. She was born on May 9, 1918, at Waterville, the daughter of the late Henry and Dovie (Hensel) McGrath. She lived most of her life in the Waterville-Withrow area. She was the youngest of three children to this union. Evelyn was married to Ralph Madtson, a few years following her graduation from high school. They lived in Withrow, where they farmed. She did a lot to help out on the farm and spent long hours in the fields, driving tractors, trucks or combine, as well as coming in to cook the large meals for the crews. When she wasn't busy helping out in the fields, she was busy with community activities. She sang in operettas, acted in plays and played piano for many different functions. She always enjoyed music and dancing. She was very active in the Withrow PTA long before she had her children. While her children were in grade school at Withrow, she helped organize field trips, picnics, school parties and programs. She became a 4-H club leader and learned as well as teaching, the finer arts of sewing with linings and finished seam edges. She was a member of the Homemakers Club and Garden Club. She served as President for both of these organizations, and organized many of their events as well as the extravagant Christmas Shows they had. She loved flowers and received many Best of Show Awards for her flower arrangements at the fairs in Waterville and Cashmere. After moving to Wenatchee in 1983, she was able to grow beautiful roses, glads and dahlias, which were enjoyed by everyone. Pinochle parties were something she enjoyed for years, until her eye sight would no longer allow her to play any more. Evelyn was a very gracious hostess, she spent many Sundays cooking large dinners for relatives and friends. She had her home beautifully decorated and ready for company. Following the death of her husband, Ralph, she continued to manage the farm for several years until her sons-in-law were able to take over its operations. She has made her home in Wenatchee since 1983. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Karla and Merle Armstrong of Withrow and Paulette and Lance Whitehall of Waterville; one sister, Luella "Peggy" McGrath of Everett; two granddaughters; one grandson; two great-granddaughters; as well as her special friends, Horace and Mary Elliott of Wenatchee and Elsie Tamm of Everett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her brother, George McGrath; her grandson, Kyle Armstrong; and her special friend, Doyle Largent. A Commemoration Service for Evelyn will be held on Friday afternoon, February 23, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at the Waterville Federated Church with the Pastor Daniel Miranda officiating. The Service will conclude at the church. Visitation will be at the Waterville Funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Interment will be in the Waterville Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Waterville Funeral Home.
