Description	:	WHITEFIELD - Everdine G. Best passed away peacefully on October 10, 2014 at Glenridge Long Term Care facility in Augusta, where she had been a resident since June of this year. She was born in Peru, Maine, on April 3, 1922, the third of nine children born to Herbert E. Knox and Madeline G. (Knox) Knox. After her father died when she was 11 years old, she was boarded and schooled at Good Will-Hinckley along with several of her siblings. During the summer months, she worked as a housekeeper on the coast of Maine and in the Augusta area. While in Augusta, she met Norman E. Best and married him on September 24, 1944. They enjoyed traveling to the coast (she loved the ocean) and frequented places like Reid State Park and Boothbay Harbor. They were married 63 before his death in October 2007. A resident of Augusta most of her life, she worked as a child-care provider, and at various jobs with W. T. Grant, Sears and Roebuck, The Maine Employment Security Commission, the House of Silver, and finally at the retail store at USVA Togus where she retired from in 1987. She was a loving and cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed getting together with her family, playing Scrabble with her sister Bea, doing crossword puzzles, and knitting. She was loved by her family and her many nephews, nieces, and friends. She was a member of the Green Street Methodist Church in Augusta. She is predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Herbert Knox and Warren Knox; and her sisters, Blandine Falkenham, Thelma Horne, and June Moody. She is survived by her two sons, Norman A. Best, and his wife, Dorothy, of Whitefield, and Bradley P. Best, of East Andover; three grandchildren, Julie Best, of Windsor, Amy Best and her husband, Paul Atkinson, of Ixopo, South Africa, and Michael Gordon, of Whitefield; two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Tyler Condon, of Windsor; sisters Kathleen Smith and husband Richard, of Deland, Fla., Geneva Goddard, and Dorothy Emery and her husband, Gerald, of Hanover. The family wishes to thank the staff of MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Long Term Care at Gray Birch and Glenridge for their care, compassion, and kindness while Eve resided with them for the past 4 years. Burial will be at Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, at a later date. (Morning Sentinel 10/15/2014)
