Description	:	St. Stephen - On Friday night a child of Sullivan HAYMAN pulled the table cover from the table and upset and broke the lamp. The oil, spilling over the child, caught fire and burnt it so badly that it died the next day. (St. Andrews Beacon, October 13, 1892) A fatal accident occurred Friday last and deprived Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan HAYMAN of their only child, a little boy about 16 mos. old. Mr. Hayman lives in the upper part of Melvin LIBBY's house on Main Street. On Friday eve. about 6 o'clock, Mrs. Hayman, after lighting the lamp, had occasion to go down cellar. She left the lamp on the kitchen table which was covered with a cloth and the child on the floor. On the way from the cellar she heard the child screaming and rushing to the kitchen, discovered that his clothing was in flames, which he was endeavoring in his childish way and all his little strength to beat down. She rapidly covered the flames with her dress and carrying him to the hall, wrapped two mats that were there around the child's body. In this way the fire was extinguished, but not until the child was so badly burned on the legs and body that he died the following day. It is supposed that he pulled the lamp on the floor by means of the table cover and that his clothing caught fire from the flame. Strange to say when the mother entered the room the lamp, although on the floor, was unbroken and burning and the chimney, unbroken, was likewise on the floor some distance away.
