Richvale --- Everett Crawford resident of Durham was killed Sunday morning near LaPorte, when he lost control of his car and it plunged down a 150-foot embankment. Mr. Crawford, a world war veteran, was born in Cawker City, Kans., in 1898 and received his education there. He moved to California with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Crawford in 1919, making his home in Pentz. "He married Miss Evelyn Merrifield of Durham eight years ago and established a home in Durham. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Black & Johnson Funeral Home in Chico. "Mr. Crawford is survived by his wife and a daughter, Shirley Rae; his father, A.E. Crawford of Pentz; a brother Harold of Seattle, and several other relatives in Los Angeles and Kansas." - Contributed by Carolyn Dowd, March 11, 2021. ~~~ 43-year-old Everett A. Crawford was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on December 4, 1941. ~~~ Chico Record, Friday Morning, December 5, 1941, pg 8, col 4: E.A. Crawford Services Held. Funeral services for Everett A. Crawford, Durham resident, who died in an automobile accident near Lakeport Sunday, were held yesterday at the Black and Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Harris Pillsbury of the Bidwell Memorial Presbyterian Church officiated. Mrs. Fred Byerly sang In The Garden and Abide With Me, accompanied by Mrs. L.A. Kloor. Burial followed in Chico Cemetery. Casket bearers were J.W. Schmidt, George Welch, C.C. Bennum, H.E. Lambert, W.L. Lynch and Dave Bennum.
