The Winterset obituary also stated that Gail’s funeral services and burial were held Saturday in Ottumwa. On January 4, 2019, I received an edit request to change Everett’s middle name from Gail to Gale on this memorial. Since his name is on his gravestone as E. Gale, I accepted this edit. Everett G. Allen married Nina Mae Booth on February 2, 1921, in Clarke County, Iowa. On that marriage record, he stated that he was born in Peru, Iowa. East Peru, Iowa, is in Madison County, Iowa, and since Everett himself gave that as his birthplace, I am using that on his memorial rather than the birth place of Clark County, Iowa, given in his obituary here in Ottumwa. I have transcribed both his obituary and funeral notice from the “Ottumwa Courier,” below. Obituary From “The Ottumwa Courier” Everett G. Allen Everett Gail Allen, 60, of Cedar Rapids, a former Ottumwan, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was a former employe of John Deere Ottumwa Works prior to moving from here seven years ago. Mr. Allen was born Aug. 29, 1901, in Clark County, Iowa. His marriage to Nina Booth took place Feb. 2, 1921. She died May 29, 1954. He was a member of the F.O.E. Lodge in Cedar Rapids. Survivors include four sons, Daryl Allen of Cedar Rapids, Keith Allen of Fort Madison, Merrill Allen of Independence, and Don Allen of Ottumwa Route 3; four daughters, Mrs. Darlene Boatman of LaCrescenta, Calif., Mrs. Edna Reed of Marshalltown, Mrs. Lorna Graham of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Shirley Vance of Hedrick; 18 grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Vernon Allen of Uvalde, Tex.; and six sisters, Mrs. Cecil Osborn of Winterset, Mrs. Leone Shelley of Cedar Rapids, Elsie of Winterset and Pearl of Des Moines, Mrs. Nita Kirk of Loup City, Neb., and Mrs. Edith Graham of Francis, Wash. The body is at the Johnson Funeral Chapel where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. “Allen Services,” From “Ottumwa Courier” Funeral services for Everett Gail Ellen, 60, of Cedar Rapids and a former Ottumwan, who died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. Rev. A.D. Steffenson, pastor of First Methodist Church will be in charge. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George O’Brien, Gilbert Keasling, Glenn Renfrew, Lloyd Johnston, Ernest Schwartz and Melvin Deevers.
