Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 - 9 p.m. at the Howser Mortuary. Mr. Kohler died Tuesday at a Norfolk hospital shortly after becoming suddenly ill. He was born in Stanton County, April 26, 1915 to Arthur and Anita Leitzke Kohler. He had resided in the Norfolk area all of his life. He married Verna Carrico on May 21, 1938 at Albion. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from October 1943 to December 1945. He was a past commander, life member, and life membership chairman of the VFW. He was a national aide de camp of the VFW and had served on the state membership committee. He was also a member of the American Legion. For many years he operated his own auto repair garage, and since 1966, had been with Looker's Inc. Surviving are his wife, Verna; one daughter and one son, Mrs. Kenneth (Karen) Anderson of Grand Island and Sam Kohler of Norfolk; seven grand children; and two great grandchildren. Alvin Spreeman sang, with Mrs. Verne Fuhrman as organist. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Turk, Alvin Koehler, Al Janssen, Dr. Val Verges, Don Papstein, Art Ries and Myron Hartford. Active pallbearers were Joe French, Bryce Pohlman, Garry Benson, Orlen Volquardsen, Eldon Kouba and Elmer Vonderohe. Mr. Kohler died May 25 in a Norfolk hospital where he had been taken after becoming suddenly ill at his home. (all spelling and puncuation as it appeared in the paper)
