Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m. from the. Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Ray Kruger will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. He was born on July 14, 1918 at Cherokee, Iowa to Charles and Margretta Anderson Groves. He attended Cherokee Schools graduating from Wilson High School in 1935. He then attended Grinnell College graduating in 1939 with a Degree in Business Administration. He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army in the European Theatre for 3 1/2 years with the 38th Medical Evac. Unit. He carpentered with Ralph Amenl for several years before and after the war. He was married to Iris Lopau on May 17,1950 at Cherokee, Iowa. He managed his father's farm which was known as the "Old Deer Farm" on the River Road. He and his wife and three children moved onto the family farm in 1958 and have actively farmed it ever since. He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Iowa Cattlemen's Association. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Creighton Peterson. He is survived by his wife Iris, two sons and one daughter: Dr. Charles Groves and his wife Kathy of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Joseph T. Groves and his wife Charlotte of Cherokee, Iowa, Miss Nancy Groves of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandsons: Aaron, Tyler, Jeffrey, and Eric Groves; one sister, Mrs. LaVanche Wurdeman of Bermuda Dunes, California.
