Description	:	Everett, 83, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Sharon Towers in Charlotte, NC. Born February 12, 1936 in Boone, Iowa, he was the son of the late John R. Hickman and Edith H. Hickman. He was a graduate of Boone High School and Drake University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Born February 12, 1936 in Boone, Iowa, he was the son of the late John R. Hickman and Edith H. Hickman. He was a graduate of Boone High School and Drake University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In May 1955, Everett joined the WHO staff of Music Men and after showing great interest and ability, became a member of the WHO-Radio and Television News Department in November 1959. His authoritative manner won him a wide and enthusiastic following throughout the Midwest. A veteran of both Radio and Television news broadcast for 43 years, he received various journalism and editorial awards including the Jack Shelly Award and the Iowa Associated Press Broadcasters. He was a very modest man, but his children enjoyed watching him on television and hearing about his interviews with presidential candidates coming through Iowa for the caucuses. Everett was an Elder of the Presbyterian Church and member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a talented member of the choir and appeared in many special holiday performances. His family fondly remembers him performing in Amal and the Night Visitors. He moved to Charlotte, NC in 2002 to be closer to his daughter Marianne. The joy of Everett's life was his family. He was a devoted father, avid reader and lover of music. He recently attended his 65th high school reunion in Boone, Iowa and topped it off with a milkshake at the Drake Diner. He is survived by two children, Christopher Hickman and his wife Yayoi Hickman of Atlanta, GA and Marianne Hickman and her husband Daniel Slegelmilch of Charlotte, NC; and five beloved grandchildren, Jack, Kyle, and Luke Hickman and Ann and Sarah Slegelmilch. He is also survived by one brother Ray Hickman of Grand Junction, CO and his former wife Jeannette Hickman of Charlotte, NC. Four brothers preceeded him in death, Donald, Ronald, John, and Darrel Hickman. A celebration of life service and internment at Linwood Park Cemetery will be held in Boone, Iowa in the Summer 2020.
