Everett was born Aug. 18, 1929, in Wessington Springs, S.D., the son of Guy and Katherine (Kieffer) Posey. He moved to Sioux City at age 6. He attended Longfellow School and East Middle School. He graduated from East High School in the mid-year class of 1948. He attended Morningside College for three semesters before he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the 1st Cavalry Division of Company A Infantry Division, serving in Korea from 1951 until 1953. He married Juanita Schultz Aug. 20, 1955, at Stanton Evangelical United Brethren Church. He joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1953 as a mail carrier. He carried two routes in the Morningside area for 33 years, retiring in 1984. After retiring, he worked at K-Mart and later at Sioux City Paint and Decorating. In the spring, he worked at Shamrock Nursery, where he was able to work with flowers. Everett loved gardening, whether it was flowers or vegetables. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church where he served as an usher at the 8:15 a.m. service for 20 years. He also served on the building committee in 2005 when the new addition was built. He was president of the Men's Club for six years, and drove for Meals on Wheels for 10 years. He was awarded the Governor's Volunteer of the Year award for 2013. Everett was a member of the American Legion Morningside Post 697. He was an avid Nebraska fan. What he loved most was spending time with family, especially going to his grandsons' events. Survivors include his wife, Juanita of Sioux City; his daughter, Marilyn (Curtis) Turner of Sioux City; two grandsons, James and Nick Turner; nieces and nephews, Ronald (Lorna) Posey, Margaret (Dr. Ralph) Maass, the Rev. Frederick (Cindia) Baltz, Everett (Pat) Baltz, Dr. Guy (Lynn) Posey and William "Bill" (Shelly) Posey; cousin, Thomas Malloy; brother-in-law, Lester Schultz; and sister-in-law, Ardythe Schultz. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Roscoe (Evelyn) Posey, Bernard (Dora) Posey, Helen (Eugene) Baltz and Kenneth (Elaine) Posey. Memorials may be directed to the family for Camp High Hopes.
