Description	:	Everett W. Waters, 96, of Peabody, formerly of Lynnfield, died on Sunday, October 28 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by his family. Born in Iowa City, Iowa on October 7, 1916, he was the son of the late Wilbur W. and Emma J. (Rummells) Waters. Read More	Everett W. Waters, 96, of Peabody, formerly of Lynnfield, died on Sunday, October 28 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by his family. Born in Iowa City, Iowa on October 7, 1916, he was the son of the late Wilbur W. and Emma J. (Rummells) Waters. He resided in Peabody for the past 7 years and was a former resident of Lynnfield for 45 years. Everett grew up on a farm in Iowa, attended a one room schoolhouse, often riding his favorite pony "Dolly" to school. He graduated from Iowa City High School, Class of 1934 and the University of Iowa, Class of 1938. Everett was the 1938 Big Ten Rifle champion and was named a first team All-American. Following college he served in the United States Army during World War II. Everett was a Design Engineer for the General Electric Company in Lynn for 33 years and retired in 1980. In 1956 Gerhard Neumann, Department General Manager of the General Electric Jet Engine business presented Everett with a managerial award for designing and demonstrating the first full scale thrust spoiler and reverser. He was an active member of the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church. He served as chairman of the Church Council, Trustees and the Finance Committee. Everett was also a Lay Delegate for the New England United Methodist Conference. He had many interests in life including golf, family car trips to national parks, summers fishing in Alaska and iceboating. You could always find him in the garage, possessed to fix anything broken with what was available, while improving the design. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Ruth E. (Dutcher), his son Gregg P. Waters and his wife Connie of Chandler, Arizona, his two daughters; Dawn L. Towey and her husband John of Rangeley, Maine and Jana L. Sheehan and her husband Richard of Rowley, MA, and his sister Irene Bowers of Iowa. He leaves his grandchildren Eric Holt, Amber Gilbert, and April Waters, all of Arizona, and Brian Stoddard of Rowley MA. He also enjoyed, as his own, four step grandchildren, Scott, Michael, Ryan, and Katherine. Everett was immensely proud of his 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Wayne W. Waters and his sister Marie Zimmerman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday November 3 at the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon St., Wakefield. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There are no calling hours. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Everett W. Waters Memorial Fund c/o The Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon St., Wakefield, MA Published in The Boston Globe on October 31, 2012
