Read More	Everett Wilson Bennett Sr., 85, of St. George, S.C. died Friday, March 19, 2010, at The Veterans Administration Victory House in Walterboro, S.C. Born on July 18, 1924, in Grover, S.C., he was the son of the late Benjamin Leo Bennett and Mary Jackson Bennett. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dwynelle ("Nell") Pritchard Bennett in 2005, after a devoted 57-year marriage that began in Albany, Ga. on April 30, 1948. The Bennetts met while he was stationed at Turner Air Force Base in Mrs. Bennett's hometown of Albany, Ga. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 22, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., at Memorial Baptist Church, 101 May Street, in St. George. The visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Bryant Funeral Home, 607 North Parler Avenue, in St. George. Burial with full military and Masonic rites will be held at Murray Cemetery in Grover, S.C. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert J. Clarkson, II, S. Hampton Eadon, III, Collin W. Crick, Matthew G. Watson, M. Wayne Eadon, Bryan W. Eadon, Roger Hartzog, and Larry ("Gus") Gusler. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Frankie Infinger, Grandell Infinger, Benjamin Bozardt and Masons. Mr. Bennett was educated in the public schools of St. George. He enlisted in the Army/Air Corps in 1945, after working as a sheet metal worker at the Navy Yard for two years. He served in the Occupation Forces in the European Theater of Operations for 15 months. He was stationed in Germany and was assigned to the 7744th Stars and Stripes Newspaper Unit. He was in the 3rd US Army Division. In 1947, he enlisted in the US Air Force, as it had become a separate unit from the Army. He served in the US Air Force until he was officially retired in 1956. His last duty station was at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, S.C. After retiring from the Air Force, he, his wife, and their three children moved back to his hometown of St. George. He opened a small appliance shop behind Weeks' Department Store. From that, Bennett's Appliance Company was born. He and his beloved wife, Nell, owned and operated this business until they "closed the doors" in 1997. Mr. Bennett was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and was active in the Wilson Patrick Sunday School Class. Serving as a Deacon for many years, he also participated in mission trips to West Virginia. Mr. Bennett was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord and shared that love to all with whom he came into contact. Mr. Bennett was a member of the American Legion Post 105, Harmony Masonic Lodge Number 61, and a former member of the St. George Businessmen's Club. He was the President of "The Big Thick" Hunting Club for many years. The Lowcountry land of South Carolina was precious to Mr. Bennett. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a student of "nature." He was asked to do storytelling about the land and resources of the Lowcountry at the Audubon Center at Beidler Forest. Some of his happiest times were spent hunting or just walking in the forest, fishing at his place at Santee, and at his beloved Bennett's Pond near Grover. Mr. Bennett was predeceased by sisters, Mattie Lou B. Infinger and Ethelene B. Infinger, and siblings who died in infancy. Surviving are his three children, daughter, Elizabeth B. Clarkson and her husband William C. Clarkson of St. George, grandchildren Elizabeth C. Crick and husband Collin W. Crick, and Robert J. Clarkson, II and wife Keely M. Clarkson, great-grandchildren, Hailey E. Crick, Rebecca H. Crick, Robert J. Clarkson, III, and Charles W. Clarkson, all of Columbia; daughter, Linda B. Eadon and her husband Sherod H. Eadon, Jr. of Columbia, grandchildren S. Hampton Eadon, III and wife Jessica L. Eadon, and Paige B. Eadon, all of Columbia; and son, Everett W. Bennett, Jr. and his wife Diana C. Bennett of Walterboro, grandchildren Bethany L. Way of Columbia, and Erin M. Watson and husband Matthew G. Watson, of Nashville, TN, Melissa B. Lather and husband Shane Lather of Lady's Island, and Donna B. DeSaussure and husband Ian DeSaussure of Hendersonville, and great-grandchildren Marley J. Lather, Wyatt S. Lather, Sarah A. DeLoach, and Connor L. DeSassure. Also surviving are Mr. Bennett's sister, Dorothy B. Wannamaker of Bowman, brother Harry W. Bennett and wife Charlotte of Clarkston, WA, and nephew and best friend, Frankie Infinger of St. George.
