Read More	Highland Recorder May 1, 1936 EZRA GINGER DIES OF SPINAL MENINGITIS Ezra Ginger, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs Benny McNeal of Vanderpool died at die King’s Daughters hospital, Staunton, Thursday, April 23rd, shortly after entering the hospital, and being administered serum for spinal meningitis. It is said, that at first, it was thought, he would react favorably to the treatment. He had suffered an attack of flu some time ago and it was the opinion of some that he was in a more or less weakened condition and unable to combat the trouble. The youth had been feeling as well as usual on Monday, but on Tuesday had become very sick in school, and had complained of headache and nausea and his teacher, Miss Addie Robertson of the fourth grade, had done everything possible for him. His symptoms were not so unusual as to cause grave concern, and he had re fused to have a doctor called, when the idea was mentioned. He sat on the steps outside, for sometime and when school closed rode home on the bus. Ezra was a bright, happy and obedient pupil and was greatly liked by his classmates. This had been his first year at Monterey school, and he was very much interested and an ambitious pupil. Dr. C. B. Fox, County Board of Health officer, who had accompanied the lad to the hospital, had the school closed for a period of ten days, as a precautionary measure, beginning on Friday morning, and the Church schools and other group meetings closed for a like duration of time. No new cases have developed or been reported to date. The child is survived by his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Benny McNeil, who moved to this vicinity from the River View community. Funeral service was conducted by the Rev. W. H. Hankins, at the Wesley Chapel cemetery, where interment was made. Pallbearers were four young men of the neighborhood, and close friends: Sandy Gutshall, Bolton Gutshall, Fleet Gutshall and Arthur Gutshall.
