The remains were brought here on No. # Train, Thursday and were met at the depot by members of the orders of W.O.W. and K.P of which he was a membrane taken to the Presbyterian church south of Brooks where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Rowley at 3 p.m, under the auspices of the above orders of Nodaway where he held his membership. Mr. LaPorte had lived near Brooks for many years and was a highly respected citizen. He leaves four children, aged 5 to 11 without care of either a father or mother. The body was accompanied from Michigan by Ezra Rutherford, a nephew and also a son of deceased who was with him. Adams County Free Press, Corning, Iowa, November 2, 1901 Ezra LaPorte, formerly a well known resident of Nodaway township, died last week in Michigan. He had been in poor health for a long time and had gone to various parts of the country in the hope of improvement. Death was caused by consumption. The remains were sent to this city last Thursday and were interred the same day in the M. E. Cemetery south of Brooks. The funeral was held at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. LaPorte was a man who was universally esteemed by neighbors and friends, who’s sympathy with him in his long illness was helpful many times. Adams County Free Press, November 6, 1901, page 1
