Description	:	Civil War: Company E, 3rd California Infantry Ezra Withee, Jr., was born in Hartland, Maine, the son of Ezra Withee, Sr., and Rebecca Gould (1840, 1850, 1860 US Census). He went to California in early 1861. During the Civil War he enlisted as a private for 3 years at Columbia on October 5 and was mustered into Captain Charles Tupper's Company E, 3rd California Infantry, October 9, 1861. Read More	Civil War: Company E, 3rd California Infantry Ezra Withee, Jr., was born in Hartland, Maine, the son of Ezra Withee, Sr., and Rebecca Gould (1840, 1850, 1860 US Census). He went to California in early 1861. During the Civil War he enlisted as a private for 3 years at Columbia on October 5 and was mustered into Captain Charles Tupper's Company E, 3rd California Infantry, October 9, 1861. He was appointed 1st Corporal December 9, 1861, and 5th sergeant December 5, 1862. Sergeant Withee was mustered out upon the expiration of his term of service at Camp Douglas, Utah Territory, October 30, 1864. He then returned to Somerset County, Maine, where he married (1) Martha Jane "Jennie" Woodbury, July 7, 1865 (1870 US Census). After Jennie's death in 1879 he appears as a widower living with his children at Hartland (1880 US Census). He filed for a Civil War veterans disability pension December 1, 1886, and received certificate No. 491,156. He married (2) Nellie M. (..?..) and was living at Pittsfield, Maine in 1890 (1890 Vets Schedule). Soon after his death Nellie filed for a Civil War widow's pension on April 20, 1899, and received certificate No. 490,883 (Pension File, NARA). --- Children: (with Jennie, all born Hartland, ME) - Blanche M.
