Read More	The Anthon Herald, 26 September 1934, page 1: News of the death of Joseph Keitges, a resident of Woodbury County for 45 years, at 9 p.m. last Wednesday in his home three and one-half miles southeast of Oto, saddened the Anthon and Oto communities in which he had made his home for so many years. He had been seriously ill three weeks before the end came. Born in Luxemburg, Germany, August 5, 1860, Mr. Keitges grew to manhood in his native country. On April 15, 1886, he was married at Sedan, France, to Justine Allwed, and he and his bride emigrated to the United States January 31, 1889, going to Danbury, Iowa. They worked on farms in the vicinity of Danbury and Holly Springs a number of years and then rented a farm between Danbury and Oto. In 1894, Mr. Keitges purchased a portion of the Phil Mead farm four miles south of Anthon. They resided on this farm until 1927, when Mr. and Mrs. Keitges moved on the farm 3 ½ miles southeast of Oto that they had purchased from Wendell Gruber in 1903. Their sons, Maurice and Ernest, continued to operate the home farm south of Anthon. Both Mr. and Mrs. Keitges spent the last years of their lives on their farm southeast of Oto. Mrs. Keitges passed away there June 15, 1932, and her husband followed her September 19, 1934, at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 14 days. Survivors include two sons, Maurice and Ernest of this community; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Novotne of Westside, Iowa; a brother, Nick, of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, other relatives and innumerable friends. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church at Oto with Rev. Charles Ernst officiating. Burial, under direction of Hudgel's Funeral Service of Anthon, was beside his wife in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery at Anthon.
