Description	:	Mae, as she was nearly always called by my Grandmother as we visited her often at the Nebraska State Mental Institution as it was called back in the 30's and up until the 1960's. Mae was a charming person, calm, very bright and worked throughout the hospital. She was a beautiful seamstress and made the loveliest rag dolls you would hope to have. In the 1920 census Mae is living in Montana and the caretaker for her brothers and sisters as her Mother had died earlier in 1919 in child birth. Ages of her siblings 13, 7, and 3. Her father M.E. was in Sidney Montana as well but living in a different residence [no idea why]. In the 1930 census and thereafter Mae is in Lincoln at the State Hospital. My father told me when I was older that Mae had been committed to the State Hospital by her father because he felt she was promiscuous. This was his first cousin and I assumed he was telling the truth as I never saw any sign that she was mentally disturbed. I have no idea if any of the family ever tried having her released from the hospital.
