Wilkes and Ida Alwes family, a well known family in Athens, Ohio area. Brothers and sisters were Mabel (Mrs. H.P.Ober) Frederick, Lula, Marie (Mrs. Morton Y Yates) and Charles. ..... She graduate from Athens High School in the 1915 clas and received her BA degree in Education in 1938 and MA degree in Applied Psychology under Dr. James P. Porter, Ohio Universiy in 1940 and did post graduate work at the Western reserve Universy. She was known for her early connection with work at the Athens State Hospital, The County Juvenile Court and later as a counselor for the National Youth Administration in Athens and later in New Philadelphia, Ohio. She was then a teacher in Cuyaboga Falls, Ohio and later in Cleveland, Ohio Schools where she retired in 1962, she then moved to Binghamton, NY area and taught special classes at Maine-Endwell for two years. She was connected with various clubs and activities and volunteer work. She belonged to the Emertus Club, Civic Club, American Civic Associations, Urban Club and was the former president of the West Side Literary Club. She helped start Meals on Wheels at the YWCA and was secretary of that committee and was on the Residents Committee at the YWCA. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. fromt the Tabernacle Methodist Church, 83 Main St. Binghamton, NY with the Rev. Gary Kuhns, Pastor of the Church, officiating. Private burial will be in Athens, Ohio cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Expressions of Sympathy, in her memory may be made to The Tabernacle Methodist Church or the Good ShepherdFairview Home, 80 Fairview Ave., Binghamton, NY 13904. Attangements by the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main St., Endicott.
